Hovione promotes Filipe Gaspar to Vice President of Research & Development

He joined the Portuguese company in 2003

Portuguese pharmaceutical ingredients and intermediates manufacturer Hovione has promoted Filipe Gaspar to Vice President of its Research and Development organisation.

Dr Gaspar, who has been with the company for more than a decade, will lead teams based in Lisbon and New Jersey, US which serve clients’ drug development projects; he will also be defining long-term product development strategies and collaborations.

Gaspar joined Hovione in 2003 as a Manufacturing Engineer and later became responsible for the technical leadership of spray drying technology. In 2004 he moved to R&D to start the Particle Engineering group, where he was involved in more than 120 projects from preclinical stage to commercial. During that period he was the Lead Scientist in four projects that reached commercial stage, including the first at Hovione submitted under Quality by Design. He was instrumental in many of the projects that contribute to Hovione’s growing success in Particle Engineering. In 2012 he moved to a Business Development role and spent a year in New Jersey.
