CMPi, organiser of the CPhI pharmaceutical ingredients show and new owner of US chemical trade show informEx, is planning to hold a series of informEx shows outside the US.

The first of these new shows is to be held at Guangzhou's Liuhua complex, from 6-8 November 2006. Two further non-US informEx shows are planned for next year but the locations have yet to be confirmed.

Meanwhile the 2006 exhibition, switched at the last minute from New Orleans to Orlando in the wake of hurricane Katrina, looks likely to have exceeded last year's event in terms of exhibitor and visitor numbers. There were 500 exhibitors (2005: 480) from 39 countries, including 76 from China, 27 from the UK, 21 from Italy, 12 from Japan and 10 from Germany. First-time exhibitors numbered 110 and non-US companies represented 43% of the total.

Pre-registrations for the show were 30% ahead of 2005 level, leading the organisers, which acquired the event last August from SOCMA - the Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association, to predict visitor numbers comfortably ahead of last year's 4,100. SOCMA continues as lead sponsor and US show partner.

'The improved figures for 2006 are an impressive tribute to the show - especially given the late venue change to Orlando, and a business climate that continues to be challenging across much of the US custom chemical sector,' said chemical and pharma ingredients group exhibitions director Kate Chambers.

In 2007, informEx will be heading west to the Moscone Center West in San Francisco, then back east to New Orleans for 2008. The respective dates 13-16 February 2007 and 29 January-1 February 2008.
