Lanxess expands disinfectant ingredient range

German specialist chemicals group Lanxess has acquired Clariant’s Nipacide PTAP product line. The company says the active ingredient p-tert-amylphenol (PTAP) will complement the phenolic active ingredients portfolio of its Material Protection Products (MPP) division.

“The acquisition of the PTAP business strengthens our position as the leading supplier of phenolic active ingredients to the disinfection market,” says Torsten Derr, head of the MPP division.

Lanxess will market the active ingredient under the Preventol PTAP brand. It can be used alone or in combination with ortho-phenylphenol (Preventol O extra) and chlorophen (Preventol BP), which are also marketed by MPP for use in hospital, household, industrial and veterinary disinfectants.

Financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.

Lanxess’ MPP business belongs to the Performance Chemicals segment, which had total sales in 2008 of €1.9bn. www.lanxess.com
