Preston Pharmaceuticals is a well established nationally recognised pharmacy manufacturing unit (PMU) for unlicensed medicines. We hold MHRA licences for; Specials manufacture, Clinical Trials, and Wholesale Dealing of medicines. Our range of products is wide ranging including aseptically prepared and classically manufactured Specials. Preston Pharmaceuticals is still the only NHS PMU to manufacture terminally sterilised infusion bags in England and is continuing to expand the product range offered. Our customer base is equally wide ranging including NHS, non NHS international customers.

The PMU is well regarded by the Trust and we have recently secured significant funding for upgrading some of our facilities and equipment. We are now seeking a committed, driven and highly talented individual to become our Head of Production – a newly created post to help steer our production units for terminally sterilised, non sterile and aseptic specials, pre-packed medicines, compounded nutrition, chemotherapy, parenteral therapies and radiopharmaceuticals.

Supported by a large team of pharmacists, technicians and assistants, you will implement new technologies and apply Lean methodologies to our processes to ensure increased productivity and efficiency as well as managing the day to day operational challenges faced within a busy NHS manufacturing unit.

Based at Royal Preston Hospital, you will also be part of a large pharmacy team, providing services to Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Preston is perfectly situated to enjoy the countryside and city life, being 30 minutes drive to the Lake District and 40 minutes to the cosmopolitan centres of Manchester and Liverpool. Nearer to base we have the lovely Ribble Valley countryside and thriving Blackpool sea side resort!

Hours of the post: 37.5. NHS ‘Agenda for Change’ terms and conditions, including holiday, pension, salary and benefits. There is currently no on-call or weekend commitment. However, weekend and twilight shifts may be implemented in the future as part of our continual quality improvement programme.
