Envirotainer, the Swedish provider of active temperature-controlled air transportation solutions, has launched a service that records crucial shipment data for customers transporting temperature-sensitive healthcare and life science products and enables the shipper to raise the quality of a product cold chain.

RAPID (Rapid Access to Product Integrity Data) is available to users of Envirotainer's RKN e1 compressor cooling and electrical heating air cargo container and is compatible with the most frequently used data logger software from Elpro and Sensitech. While Elpro is already live with its latest 'RAPID-able' software release of ElproLog, Sensitech's new software release which will be fully compatible with RAPID is scheduled to be available in summer 2007.

'RAPID has been developed in consultation with our healthcare customers who are constantly looking for further ways to protect their products during air transportation,' said Martin Peter, Envirotainer's director of business development and marketing. 'The service is activated by the shipper and easy to access. The system monitors ambient temperature as well as air temperature inside the container. Furthermore, the system logs battery level as well as opening and closing of container doors.

'The shipper activates the system at origin and then deactivates it at destination using customer-specific codes. Shipment data is logged during transportation and, upon arrival, downloaded via an IR reader to a user-friendly format for further analysis.'

The RAPID system is designed to comply with high security standards. Customer-specific codes and data encryption allows full confidentiality and integrity. Shipment data cannot be manipulated and is deleted automatically from the IR reader after data is saved. All data is logged based on date and time as well as container ID to avoid the misreading of information.
