Rexam, the global consumer packaging company, is rolling its three healthcare packaging businesses: Rexam Pharma, Primary Packaging and Prescription into a new single division to be called Rexam Healthcare.

Marc Haemel, who currently heads Rexam Pharma, will be managing director of the new division.

He said the consolidation was "an important strategic move" as the industry faced globalisation and increasingly strict regulatory requirements.

"The larger scope of our business will enhance our skills and expertise in global project management, multi-site manufacturing, strong r&d capabilities and regulatory support," he said.

"As a new unified healthcare organisation we will leverage synergies in quality, technology, operations and sales to strengthen partnerships with our customers."

Since 2003, Rexam has increased its presence in healthcare packaging through a series of key acquisitions on three continents. With 16 factories and more than 3,000 employees in Europe, North America and Asia, the company says the new division ranks among the top players in healthcare packaging and devices.

Rexam Pharma specialises in drug delivery systems and medical devices, while Primary Packaging offers standard and custom containers and closures as well as ophthalmic packaging.

Prescription offers a complete line of automated pharmacy prescription vial and closures for use in mail order, central processing, unit of use and repackaging industries technologies.
