Edwards appoints new chief executive and cfo

Matthew Taylor and David Smith aim to drive growth

Edwards, the Crawley, UK-based vacuum manufacturer for use in semiconductors, flat panel displays, LEDs and solar cells, has appointed Matthew Taylor as chief executive and David Smith as chief financial officer. The two men previously worked together in senior management positions at Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and Ford Europe.

Taylor was most recently group chief executive J C Bamford Excavators, a global construction equipment company. Previously he spent more than 20 years with Ford, culminating in being managing director of Land Rover.

Smith brings 25 years of blue chip international experience with Ford and JLR, the last 13 years in cfo or ceo positions.

Nigel Hunton, who has been chief executive for the past four years, has become chairman.

As part of these changes, current finance director, Chris Bradley, has decided to leave the company.

‘Edwards now has a broader and stronger management team to deliver successfully high technology solutions for our customers and capitalise on opportunities in all our markets,’ said Hunton.
