MWV wins HCPC-Europe 2010 award
For Med-Easy patient compliance packaging
MeadWestVaco emerged victorious from a shortlist of three, which also included AmerisourceBergen Packaging Group/Brecon Pharmaceuticals' IntuiPac and Carl Edelmann/Uhlmann Pac-Systemes’ Packed2Protect.
The jury agreed that MWV’s Med-Easy offered the best protection, evidence of the medication taken and ease of use.
The judging panel, consisting of HCPC-Europe's board and advisory board members, made their decision based on a ‘Pugh Matrix’ evaluation, following the assessment of criteria such as basic design (use of colours, icons, reminder aids and readability); ease of use (accessibility, portable, reclosability and robustness); intuitiveness of use; leaflet presentation; affordability and environmental impact.
Med-Easy, launched in 2009, is slim and rectangular and fits in a pocket; it offers simple one-handed operation – the blister pack slides in and out for dispensing or can be completely removed if desired; it has a discreet, book-like design with room for communication on the pack and blister; and has a flap for instructional leaflets to be stored with the package informing patients about how to take their medicines. The pack can also be made from recycled materials.
