Huber Engineered Materials, a business unit of JM Huber Corporation, has acquired Micro Powders and Braig, Incorporated (MPBI), located in Benicia, CA.

According to company officials, Huber found remarkable product and manufacturing synergies with MPBI that aligned with the company's strategy of furthering its development of specialty ingredients and functional additives used in nutraceutical/pharmaceutical excipients and tablets.

With the October launch of its RxCIPIENTS advanced pharmaceutical excipients, company officials are eager to continue to explore new methodologies to serve the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical marketplaces.

'Huber's current operational and quality assurance resources are founded in quality assurance. Our near term goals are to implement these resources and our Six Sigma processes to continue to grow the existing business while exploring new markets,' said Michael Carpenter, business segment leader, pharmaceutical excipients and food ingredients & nutritional businesses.

Specialty engineering practices and surface science research have been a staple of Huber Engineered Materials. It is anticipated that granulation services, like the ones at MPBI, can be tailored to meet the specialty formulation methodologies of drug and supplement manufacturers alike. MPBI is a granulator and tablet manufacturer of calcium carbonate and ground oyster shell powders, which are a natural source of calcium carbonate.

Both products are essential to the calcium supplement as well as excipient marketplace and are used in oral dosage tablet manufacturing and processing.
