Giles Platford will join Takeda Pharmaceuticals International, which is headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, on 1 April as Head of Commercial Operations, Emerging Markets.
Platford will be responsible for leading the continued expansion of Takeda's commercial activities in this region, which comprises Russia-CIS, Latin America, Middle East/Africa and South Asia.
Platford has been with Takeda since 2009. Most recently, he was Head of the Middle East, Turkey, Africa (META) region. Prior to this, he was General Manager of Takeda Brazil, where he led the successful acquisition of Multilab, positioning Takeda as one of the top 10 pharmaceutical groups in the country. He previously spent eight years in the pharmaceutical industry in Asia Pacific, assuming various business development, commercial and general management roles.
Emerging markets are expected to contribute 70% of total global pharmaceutical market growth between 2013 and 2017 (IMS Health).
