Japanese pharmaceutical company Santen has promoted Shigeo Taniuchi to the position of Head of Santen Europe, based in Munich, Germany.
Taniuchi joined Santen in 1996 and brings 15 years of management experience and global business leadership in the company to his new position. From September 2014, he was Senior Vice President, Commercialisation for Santen Europe.
Previously he was General Manager, Corporate Planning and Corporate Development Division for Santen in Osaka, Japan. He was also responsible for commercial operations in China developing initiatives to transform the business model in the country. In addition, he has been in charge of strategy building and implementation for Santen's Asia business.
Santen started commercial activities in the 1990s in Germany, Nordic and Central European countries. Since then the company has expanded its presence in the region and now has commercial operations across Europe with a focus on glaucoma and dry eye.
In March, Santen obtained a European Marketing Authorisation for Ikervis, the first drug for the treatment of severe keratitis in adult patients with dry eye disease in Europe.
