Published: 25-Jun-2024

The award acknowledges those producing machinery and engineering innovations in the process industry

GF Piping Systems, a flow solutions provider, has received the Innovation Award from the German Design Council for its IR-63 M infrared fusion machine in the ‘Excellence in Machines & Engineering’ category.

The German Innovation Award was established by the council to honour innovative projects, products and achievements.

Combining new technology with the classics

The IR-63 M infrared (IR) fusion machine, which features an updated UX/UI concept co-developed with Busse Design and Engineering GmbH, was awarded in the b2b category 'Machines & Engineering’, which focuses on areas such as process and manufacturing techniques.

The equipment maintains established technology whilst also integrating novel hardware and software features for faster, more convenient and efficient welding.

As well as an optimised clamping unit and a patented adjustable pipe stop, the IR-63M features a novel touchscreen fitted with safety glass, offering the operator intuitive navigation.

Cloud connectivity

Moreover, the Connectivity Box facilitates access to GF’ Piping System’s cloud service, facilitating the transfer of welding protocols and documentation.

The IR-63 M ensures contact-free and high-quality pipe connections for the materials PVDF, ECTFE, PP-H, PP-n, PE100, PFA and PVC-U in the chemical processing, microelectronics or water treatment sectors.

The updates have resulted in 20% shorter preparation times, 30% fewer process steps, and 50% shorter cooling times.

Head of R&D IR / BCF Welding at GF Piping Systems, Benedikt Engesser, commented: “While the IR-63 M features a number of hardware upgrades, we put a lot of effort into providing unparalleled accessibility for the end user, leading to significant increases in reproducibility, reliability, and efficiency. Thanks to a strong collaboration with Busse Design and Engineering GmbH, the team was able to revolutionise the design.”
