AB Sciex, a mass spectrometry specialist, has combined its chromatography business with the capillary electrophoresis (CE) business of Beckman Coulter Life Sciences, with the aim of advancing separations science.
The move brings together Beckman Coulter’s expertise in microscale separation with the microfluidics expertise of AB Sciex’s Eksigent chromatography team.
Both companies are owned by science and technology firm Danaher Corporation.
Staff, technologies and resources will be transferred from Beckman Coulter Life Sciences to AB Sciex.
The firm said the move would enable it to serve customers better while addressing analytical challenges with powerful scientific strategies that take advantage of complementary technologies.
‘We are bringing together the best in CE with the best in nano LC and micro LC as a unified team to broaden the range of solutions available to our customers,’ said Rainer Blair, President of AB Sciex. ‘By integrating the Beckman Coulter CE team into the Sciex separations business, we will be able to take CE and our chromatography solutions to a whole new level.’
The teams will work together to develop integrated applications that provide fast and efficient separations of drugs, drug metabolites, organic acids, amino acids, low molecular weight amines, peptides, nucleic acids and nucleosides.
AB Sciex said the new alignment would also ‘unlock greater potential to extend technology leadership, synergies and market presence’.
This will contribute to the advancement of biologics, clinical research and academic research for biological applications.
