The company was awarded its first Clean Air Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for its cleanroom and architectural systems

Provider of high-performance cleanroom facilities for the pharmaceutical industry, AES Clean Technology, has been awarded its first Clean Air Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, for its cleanroom architectural systems.

LEED is a globally recognised symbol of sustainability achievement and leadership, and is a key milestone for AES, enabling it to meet increased customer demands in line with the rapidly changing commercial landscape, grow sustainably as a business, and improve standards across the sector.

The pharmaceutical industry has a major sustainability problem, emitting 55% more tonnes of CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent) per million dollars than the automotive industry, leading to a drive to adopt more environmentally sustainable practices including LEED certification.

LEED certification is the most widely used green building rating system in the world. It is available for virtually all building types and provides a framework for healthy, efficient, and cost-saving green buildings.

As part of the assessment, AES Clean Technology succeeded in meeting the Clean Air GOLD level, putting it in line with the highest standards in the industry.

LEED certification is more than just implementing sustainable practices

- Steve Oliver, Director of Marketing

It had extensive testing performed as part of the certification process, covering all of its architectural panels including the walls and ceilings plus sealants used in the architectural envelope.

Out of a possible air quality rating of 1-3 points AES were given the highest #3 points, due to their rigorous system of individually listing adhesives and sealants, walls, and ceiling in product categories.

Steve Oliver, Director of Marketing said: “AES is proud to lead the way in helping to improve the environment and the health and well-being of its communities. Achieving Clean Air GOLD firmly supports those initiatives.

“LEED certification is more than just implementing sustainable practices. It represents a commitment to making the world a better place and influencing others to do better.”
