AMCo buys Australian company Boucher and Muir

The company will set up a regional commercial centre in Australia to support its expansion


AMCo, a London, UK-based international niche pharmaceutical firm, has bought the Australian pharmaceutical company, Boucher and Muir (BNM), to expand into Australasia.

No financial details have been revealed.

BNM was established in 1957 and has sales in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, The company sells medical products from vaccines to anaesthetics, as well as solid dose tablets and capsules. It also works with government health departments in the Pacific Islands.

AMCo and BNM have been working together for the past decade, with BNM one of AMCo’s main distributors in the region.

AMCo will create a regional commercial centre in Australia, along similar lines to the Nordics regional centre created when the company acquired Abcur in Sweden in December 2013. Earlier this year, the company created a regional centre in Dubai to serve the MENA region.

AMCo's Chief Executive John Beighton said: 'Boucher and Muir has been our trusted partner in the Australasia region for the past decade and we are pleased to be able to acquire the company. It has a strong history of supplying niche medicines in the region and we will be looking to build on that as a cornerstone of AMCo’s expansion in Australia, New Zealand and the surrounding geographies.'

The company currently sells its products in 112 territories worldwide. Since the acquisition of Fucithalmic from LEO Pharma in April 2013, it has acquired or set up commercial operations in Ireland, France, Sweden, Benelux, Italy, Dubai and now Australia. The company has also established a presence in South Africa, Hong Kong and Argentina to manage its regional African, Asia Pacific and Latin America businesses respectively.
