Amneal buys former J&J plant in Tipperary, Ireland
Aims to hire up to 300 people at the facility which will focus on R&D, inhalers and biosimilars
US headquartered generic drug manufacturer Amneal Pharmaceuticals is to create up to 300 jobs in Ireland following the purchase of a former Johnson & Johnson manufacturing plant in Cashel, County Tipperary.
The 200,000ft2 (around 19,000m2) facility was sold to Amneal by owner Solidus Private Equity, a Singapore-based investment firm.
Amneal said the Cashel site will be dedicated to R&D and the production of metered dose and dry powder inhalers, as well as biosimilars.
Amneal's co-Chief Executive Chintu Patel said the company expects to recruit an estimated 250–300 people at full build-out.
'Our new Ireland facility is critical to Anneal's long-term global growth in Europe, the US and throughout the world,' he said.
From its inception in 2002 as a contract manufacturer, Amneal has grown to its current position as the seventh largest US generics supplier by volume.
