Gerresheimer acquires Bormioli Pharma Group through Blitz LuxCo Sarl merger

Gerresheimer and Bormioli Pharma will merge to provide the biotech and pharmaceutical industries with primary packaging solutions, dosing systems, closure solutions and accessories

Pharma and biotech solutions provider Gerresheimer has acquired Blitz LuxCo Sarl, the holding company associated with Bormioli Pharma Group.

The deal, which was announced in May 2024, will expand Gerresheimer's footprint in Europe — adding a number of primary glass pharmaceutical packaging production sites to its arsenal. 

Bormioli Pharma will also enhance Gerresheimer's moulded glass capabilities, adding a vast product packaging portfolio suitable for the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, food and beverage industries.

Gerresheimer hopes to use this acquisition as a chance for a strategic reset, aligning its strategy with key growth areas in the primary pharmaceutical packaging space.

The indirect acquisition of Bormioli Pharma will bolster Gerresheimer's ability to act as a full service provider for its pharmaceutical and biotech clients — adding to its current range of packaging, closure solutions, accessories and dosing systems. 

In February, Gerresheimer plans to publish guidance for the the merger of the two companies.

CEO of Gerresheimer, Dietmar Siemssen, commented: "Following the successful completion of the acquisition, we can now focus on the integration of Bormioli Pharma into the Gerresheimer Group,"
