Bio-Rad Laboratories has added the Lucid ID Access Pack, the first product designed for the Lucid Proteomics System, which is being developed by Bio-Rad and Bruker Corporation to combine Bio-Rad's ProteinChip surface-enhanced laser desorption/ionisation (SELDI)-based array technology with Bruker's ultrafleXtreme MALDI-TOF/TOF mass spectrometer, to its product portfolio.

The multinational manufacturer and distributor of life science research and clinical diagnostic products says the system will enable researchers to use both top-down and bottom-up proteomics approaches for biomarker discovery on the same system.

Researchers who currently profile their biomarkers using Bio-Rad's ProteinChip array technology can use the Lucid ID Access Pack to complete the biomarker purification process and identify these biomarkers.

The Lucid ID Access Pack has the ability to identify peptides under 4 kilodaltons directly on a ProteinChip array after a simple, one-step enrichment. Identification of proteins and peptides over 4 kilodaltons that require trypsin digestion is demystified by following Bio-Rad's Biomarker Purification and Identification Guide and by using ProteinChip arrays with Bruker's mass spectrometer, which has been optimised to read ProteinChip arrays.

The Lucid pack includes a chip holder designed to analyse ProteinChip arrays on the Lucid Proteomics System and ProteinChip arrays with chromatographic surfaces most commonly used in identification protocols .

A manual including optimised instrument settings for on-chip peptide identification is also included, together with all necessary user licences.
