Swiss laboratory equipment supplier Buechi's B-90 nano spray dryer is said to revolutionise spray drying owing to its technology for particle generation down to the nanometre range from minimal sample quantities at high yields.
The instrument produces nanoparticles of 300nm to 5-micron size with narrow size distribution. It is capable of drying milligram scale samples and offers high yields up to 90%. The company says further process time is saved thanks to quick assembling, easy cleaning and fast turnover.
The B-90 is designed to evaluate drying during the early stages of product development. It meets the needs of the pharmaceutical, advanced materials and nanotechnology industries for aqueous or solvent-based solutions, nanoemulsions or nanosuspensions.
Millions of precisely sized droplets with very narrow distribution are generated every second by means of a piezoelectric-driven spray head, vibrating a thin membrane with an array of micron-sized holes. An electrostatic particle collector separates the dried particles with excellent particle recovery rates for nanoparticles of milligram sample amounts, the company says.
