Envirowise has teamed up with the University of York's Green Chemistry Centre to offer a one-day training course to raise awareness and improve understanding of the opportunities associated with sustainable development and green products.
The "Greener Products Masterclass", which is open to individuals and organisations, will be held at the Kings Manor in York on 1 July 2008. It brings together leading experts in the field to equip participants with the knowledge and tools they need to make more informed decisions about resource efficiency and cleaner technologies.
According to Envirowise chemicals specialist Geoff Leaver, there is an ongoing need for the sector to take action to address environmental issues. "It is crucial that the sector continues to look at ways in which its environmental impact can be reduced. For example, Green Chemistry offers an excellent foundation for achieving long-term sustainable practice," he said.
The Masterclass will be divided into three parts, with the first providing an introduction to the concept of green chemistry and how its application can be used as a means of improving resource efficiency and increasing profit. The second part will address specific design opportunities and the assessment tools and procedures involved. Ecosystem services, resource selection and biorefineries will be the focus of the final part of the day.
Held in conjunction with the fifth annual "Green Chemistry and the Consumer" symposium on 2 July, Masterclass participants will also be given the opportunity to attend an evening event free-of-charge. Led by a plenary lecture from Steve Johnson, Sustainable Development Manager at Boots UK, the evening will also include access to an exhibition of green products.
The Masterclass is associated with an online professional development programme that consists of web-based modules providing in-depth information building on the topics covered on the day, as well as other key issues related to sustainable development.
