CT for saw palmetto

The first US large-scale trial to examine the effect of saw palmetto extract on urinary symptoms in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) has started.

Indena, a company that produces APIs derived from plants, has been chosen to supply the saw palmetto (Serenaoa repens), a small palm tree. Its fruit has long been used in the preparation of alcoholic and oily extracts, which are used in the treatment of the pathological conditions connected with the disease.

Evidence from trials conducted in western Europe suggests it may have substantial benefits for men.
