Dow Chemical forms alkoxylates r&d team

Published: 17-May-2002

Dow Chemical Company has formed an alkoxylation r&d team within its industrial chemicals business unit to develop product and process technology for alkoxylates in a number of markets, including pharmaceuticals.

Alkoxylate chemistry is extremely versatile and results in a wide range of end-product functional possibilities, says Dow. Alkoxylates serve as functional formulation ingredients in a broad range of applications that require control over rheology, tribology, solvency, hygroscopicity, interfacial tension and chemical reactivity. Alkoxylation provides the technical foundation for a number of Dow businesses, including glycols, glycol ethers, alkanolamines, ethylene amines, polyurethane polyols, polyglycols, surfactants, and polyethylene oxide polymers.

'We believe this new r&d structure will lay the foundation for increased innovation and value creation from our broader alkoxylation capability,' said Lisa Quencer, r&d leader, surfactants. 'We're building on our fundamental strength in organic synthesis, catalysis, reactor engineering, and process separations so we can provide our customers with even broader solutions to their unmet market needs.'
