EC requests monitoring of pharma pollutants
Three chemicals are under the spotlight
The European Commission has proposed that European Union (EU) rivers, lakes and coastal waters are closely monitored for pollution by three pharmaceutical industry chemicals: 17 alpha-ethinylestradiol (EE2), 17 beta-estradiol (E2), and diclofenac.
Brussels wants these checks authorised by changes to the EU directive on priority substances in the field of water quality.
