The OECD’s broadened definition, which includes any fluorinated substance containing at least one fully fluorinated methyl (-CF₃) or methylene (-CF₂-) carbon atom, captures a wide range of industrial chemicals, including fluorinated polymers.
In anticipation of stricter regulations, Titan Enterprises is proactively implementing measures to future-proof its products and ensure continued compliance and customer support. Titan is currently testing the suitability of alternative fluorine-free materials that would provide an effective PFAS-free option for their turbine flowmeters.
One such material - Hostaform® - is currently performing well under testing, with key properties of good chemical resistance to solvents, fuel and strong alkalis, as well as high resistance to thermal and oxidative degradation, being of significant importance to Titan’s turbine flowmeters. Another key aspect for its consideration is that Hostaform® is FDA-compliant for food contact and use in medical applications.
Titan Enterprises has published their PFAS statement (which can be downloaded from their website) outlining the company’s position on current and emerging legislation concerning PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) and the anticipated impact on their product portfolio.
