EU fund to help retrain redundant AZ staff
European Globalisation Adjustment Fund helps workers to lower-wage countries
The European Union (EU) Council of Ministers has approved paying €4.3m from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund to help retrain 700 workers made redundant by AstraZeneca in Sweden.
This followed an international rationalisation of the pharmaceutical manufacturer’s research units, with increased investment in China and Russia.
The fund helps workers who lose jobs to lower-wage countries outside the EU.
