At the same time, the Chinese pharmaceutical industry has intensified the speed of development and venturing abroad has become of one of its key strategies.
With a 22% share of the world market, annual growth rates around 28% and exports of US$3.7bn in 2004, China is the hot spot in the world bulk pharmaceutical market. API China, organised by Reed Sinopharm, offers an opportunity for anyone involved in the purchase of ingredients or outsourcing to meet all the major Chinese manufacturers and stay ahead in this rapidly changing industry.
The exhibition encompasses ingredients, intermediates and fine chemicals in China and is held twice a year, with the next event taking place on 18-20 May in Chengdu's New International Convention & Exposition Center. A seminar programme also gives visitors the chance to learn about the latest developments in the Chinese industry.
API China incorporates a number of specialised zones, including the Packaging & Machinery zone, with the objective of creating a one-stop solution for buyers. This zone has evolved to become the most recognised pharmaceutical packaging material exhibitions in China, according to the organiser.
More recently the Contract Manufacturing Service Zone has been launched. With an increasing need to provide customised products in pharmaceutical ingredients, intermediates and outsourcing services, this special feature will offer manufacturers, equipment suppliers, OEMs and contract manufacturers a new string of business opportunities in the local and overseas markets.
Last autumn's API China event attracted 32,083 visitors and 1,101 exhibitors - with more Chinese manufacturers displaying their products and services than at any other event of its kind in the world, the organiser says.
Reed Sinopharm, a joint venture between the world's leading exhibition organiser and China's largest pharmaceutical company, provides a range of support services for overseas visitors. These include assistance with hotel booking; fast track registration; VIP rooms with internet access; comprehensive information on exhibitors; interpreters; match-making and assistance with networking.
