Parker Lucifer, part of the Fluid Control Division Europe of Parker Hannifin Corporation, will demonstrate a new generation of coils for controlling solenoid valves in hazardous environments, which improve performance through the innovative use of materials and encapsulation technologies.

To achieve flameproof protection, the new coils replace metal housing with a novel plastic design. This housing features an extremely small internal space to ensure that any spark does not have enough oxygen to ignite and cause an explosion - and integrates an interchangeable safety fuse. This approach saves an enormous amount of space and weight.

The new explosion-proof coils meet ATEX stan-dards, providing EEx dm IIC T4, T5 and T6 or EEx ia IIC T6 level protection. Parker Lucifer can equip a large proportion of its solenoid valve designs with the new electrical parts, in particular for the low power (2.5 W) and intrinsic safety types.

The company will also highlight its EExPress fieldbus-compatible manifold, which allows pneumatic actuation systems to be sited in hazardous (Zone 1 and 2) processing environments without the need for expensive explosion-proof pressurised cabinets.

The EExPress Bus Manifold is a stackable valve island system that fully integrates 5/2 solenoid valves, control electronics and input sensors for Zone 1 and 2 environments. It is compatible with the Profibus DP fieldbus. One Profibus address can operate up to 32 individual 5/2 modular solenoid valves, or a combination of valves and actuator position sensors. The valve island's fieldbus compatibility also supports advanced remote diagnostics down to individual valve and sensor level. The fieldbus connection to the terminal can be made by either optical fibre or copper - with the aid of intrinsic safety circuits.

EExPress is fully certified to ATEX and LCIE standards, is CE marked and EMC tested and approved.
