Local sales operations, customer services and technical services will be extended

German pharmaceutical glass and plastic packaging specialist Gerresheimer continues to expand its global operations by opening a representative office in Mumbai, India.

The firm said it intends to advance its pharmaceutical primary packaging and drug delivery systems business in the growing Indian market. In addition to sales operations, the company is also stepping up its local customer services and technical services.

‘Our strategic objective is to achieve above average growth in the emerging markets,’ said Gerresheimer chief executive Uwe Röhrhoff.

‘We currently generate around 10% of our revenues in these dynamically growing markets and we aim to double this figure over the next three years. Opening our representative office in India is an important step towards achieving this objective.’

In the first three quarters of 2010, Gerresheimer achieved revenue growth of 4.4% to €753m. The main generators of growth in the pharma sector were insulin pens, asthma inhalers and prefillable syringes.

The company said economic recovery in the laboratory glassware segment also had a positive impact on figures.
