Grant puts new spin on mixing

Grant Instruments (Cambridge), of the UK, has introduced a combined centrifuge-vortex mixer range for applications requiring spinning and mixing of microtubes and 0.2ml strips. The Grant-bio PCV is available in two compact models, each with two interchangeable rotors for accommodating 1.5, 0.1 and 0.2ml microtubes.

The PCV-2400 Combi-spin is said to be particularly suitable for low sample volumes and can be used for vortex mixing of an individual tube concurrently with spinning of multiple tubes.

The PCV-3000 Multi-spin enables consecutive spin and mix phases of multiple tubes. Tubes can be loaded into the rotor and spun at adjustable speeds over a range of 1000-3500rpm and remain in position for vortex mixing.

The programmable unit allows accurate setting of spin speed and mixing level and a time setting for each. The spin and mix operations can be linked, and a sequence of linked cycles may be repeated up to 999 times. Both models have a low profile and a small footprint and can be used in a cold room or incubator with an operating ambient temperature range of 4-45°C.
