GSK upgrades water disinfection with Hanovia's Photon system

Published: 1-Feb-2003

GlaxoSmithKline has upgraded the UV water disinfection units at one of its UK facilities with the installation of new Hanovia Photon medium pressure UV systems. In total six systems have been upgraded, all of which are used to disinfect purified water for the washing and rinsing stages of CIP production equipment as well as for the manufacture of tablet coating solutions.

The water is chlorinated before passing through sand filters, after which it is passed through carbon filters and deionised prior to ultra violet disinfection. The systems have the capacity to treat up to 80 tonnes of water a day.
