HTK 1500: The new benchmark in high-temperature xrd environmental heating

Published: 30-Jul-2024

Setting a new standard in precise and stable high-temperature heating for x-ray diffraction applications

Anton Paar is proud to announce the launch of the HTK 1500 High-Temperature Chamber, the new benchmark in environmental heaters for high-temperature X-ray diffraction (XRD). The HTK 1500 allows for homogeneous heating of all types of sample materials, including crystalline powders and bulk samples, up to 1,500 °C. This makes it the only true environmental heater available on the market that reaches such high temperatures without any compromises in precision.

The HTK 1500 stands out with its superior temperature accuracy and stability. The innovative position of the heating rods and the high-precision temperature measurement ensure consistent heating from 25 °C to 1,500 °C. This smart design, combined with advanced materials for heater and insulation, makes it ideal for high-temperature applications in ceramics, metals, and more.

A key feature of the HTK 1500 is the inclusion of a temperature sensor that is located directly beneath the sample in a protective ceramic holder. This configuration guarantees highly repeatable and reliable temperature measurements, outperforming other systems with free-standing sensors.

The HTK 1500 also offers a fast and easy switch between reflection and transmission modes, by the use of a capillary extension, making it suitable for air-sensitive and organic powders and liquids. This feature minimises the need for user intervention, enhancing efficiency and convenience in various experimental setups. Additionally, the design facilitates sample spinning during high-temperature XRD measurements, which is crucial for improving data quality by overcoming preferred orientation.

Durability and chemical resistance are integral to the HTK 1500’s design. The sample carriers, made of chemically inert alumina, minimise the risk of reactions with samples, even at high temperatures. The chamber supports measurements under various inert gas atmospheres to protect samples from oxidation during heating.

The HTK 1500 is designed to perfectly integrate with Anton Paar’s XRDynamic 500 XRD system. This combination offers high automation, including stage recognition, stage and sample alignment and realignment during heating, and easy connection of cooling water, vacuum, and gas lines. The seamless integration with the XRDynamic 500 control software ensures a user-friendly experience for high-temperature XRD analysis.

A user-friendly slider mechanism for the sample holder allows for quick and reproducible sample exchanges. The provided sample carriers accommodate various sample types, such as powders, bulk samples, and thin layers, enhancing the flexibility and versatility of the HTK 1500.
