Key figures from the manufacturing and pharmaceutical industry have shared messages of support with International Women’s Day on LinkedIn.
German company GEA shared a profile of its data management analyst Vanessa Wewer, writing: “This International Women's Day we celebrate the women making an impact in the engineering world.”
Wewer herself said: “As a young woman in engineering I challenge the status quo every day.”
There seems to be some evidence that in recent times female representation in manufacturing industries has been on the rise. In late 2022, online publication Engineering World reported that between 2010 and 2021 there was a six percent increase in the proportion of women in the engineering workforce.

“Women play a key role in forwarding the progress of science and technology. A selection of our female employees have provided us with an insight into what it's like being a woman within the scientific industry, and some words of encouragement and advice to women and girls wanting to pursue a career in STEM,” wrote medicine-enabling company Nanoform.
Elsewhere, SGS urged the world to “explore going beyond gender equality” highlighting the importance of adopting equity in order for employees to shine.
Bormioli and Gerresheimer both led with the hashtag “#EmbraceEquity”. Bormioli wrote: “As a Group with over 1,400 employees, we have several initiatives in place to foster an environment of diversity and inclusion, among these a concrete commitment to completely closing the gender pay gap by 2028.”
"Today we would like to recognise the passion and engagement of all Gerresheimer women across the globe who contribute every day to our mission innovating for a better life,” said Gerresheimer in a post.
