Intertek provides Shandong Futaste with life cycle assessment on Xylitol products
Futaste can now quantify its environmental footprint and communicate the environmental impact of its products to the outside world
Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions to a wide range of industries worldwide, has provided China’s Shandong Futaste with life cycle assessment (LCA) on its xylitol products.
The LCA is a complete assessment of xylitol, which is produced by Futaste in China according to ISO 14040/44 standards. Tests include carbon footprint, water footprint, energy footprint, recourse consumption, eutrophication and acidification. The assessment report was prepared in accordance with the requirements of ISO, and was reviewed by independent external experts.
'Futaste is the first company in China to have Intertek carry out a life cycle assessment of its xylitol products,' said Jasmine Zhang, Deputy General Manager of Intertek China Green Initiatives. 'The LCA covered the entire process of the xylitol products and mean that Futaste can now quantify its environmental footprint and communicate the environmental impact of its products to the outside world.
'By analysing the life cycle of a product, the company can understand the environmental impact of its products on the journey from raw materials and purchase to production, packaging and transportation. This assessment also provides a reference point for the company to develop other environmentally-friendly products.' Joy Qiao, Director of Marketing Department at Futaste, added: 'As people's health consciousness grows, so the demand for functional sugar increases. By using non-foodstuff as raw materials, Futaste has created a "recycle economy chain" to develop sustainable agriculture. Futaste is committed to taking a leadership position in environmental affairs in all its products, as it strives to deliver sustainable, green, low carbon products.
'Intertek’s expertise and experience in the area of product life cycle analysis (LCA) can help Futaste to gain more independent analysis of our xylitol products’ environmental impacts, thus bettering our ideas and goals in technical renovation and environmental assessment.'
