Further strengthening its position in the US

LGC Standards, a UK-based global supplier of reference materials, has acquired US-based VHG Labs, a supplier of spectrochemical standards, consumables for laboratory instrumentation and product testing services, further strengthening its US base. No financial details have been revealed.

VHG was founded in 1981 and operates from a purpose-built facility in Manchester, New Hampshire. The firm is accredited to ISO Guide 34 for the production of reference materials for oil based testing and aqueous inorganic standards. It also offers consumables for laboratory instrumentation and analytical testing for high purity materials, metal alloys, consumer products and a range of commercial products.

LGC Standards, headquartered in Teddington, Middlesex, says the two firms are an excellent fit: both supply reference materials and provide proficiency and consumer product testing services, and share a commitment to high standards of quality and customer service.

This latest transaction follows LGC’s acquisition of US-based Analytical Reference Materials International (ARMI) in March.

The VHG Labs deal not only strengthens LGC’s US base but also follows the appointment of Ed Pagani as chief executive of the firm’s operations; a new role that reflects the importance of the region to the LGC Group.

LGC Standards supplies over 100,000 products, including reference materials, pharmaceutical impurity reference standards, biological standards and reagents, and is a leading providers of proficiency testing services.
