LGC, a leader in chemical and bioanalytical services and reference materials headquartered in Teddington, Middlesex, UK, has appointed Dr Derek Craston to its board as chief scientific officer.
Dr Craston will lead the scientific effort of the company, coordinating science development, and forging LGC’s scientific partnerships for research, discovery and innovation. He will continue with his existing roles as government chemist and managing director of LGC Science & Technology.
Craston joined LGC in 1991 as a leader of the company’s r&d activities, and has more than 15 years’ experience in management within a high tech environment.
Since he joined LGC, Craston has held a number of senior positions within the Group, including head of bioanalytical innovation and head of chemical and pharmaceutical services.
LGC has four divisions – LGC Forensics, LGC Genomics, LGC Standards and LGC Science & Technology. The latter includes specialist laboratories delivering contracts for the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and supports LGC's designated role as the UK's National Measurement Institute for chemical and bioanalytical measurement.
