Lonza achieves manufacturing alliance with Solvay

Lonza Group, the global life sciences company, has entered a strategic manufacturing alliance with Solvay Pharmaceuticals. In line with this long-term strategic cooperation, Lonza will produce an important selection of Solvay's large volume API's (active pharmaceutical ingredients).


Lonza Group, the global life sciences company, has entered a strategic manufacturing alliance with Solvay Pharmaceuticals. In line with this long-term strategic cooperation, Lonza will produce an important selection of Solvay's large volume API's (active pharmaceutical ingredients).

Previous to entering into the agreement Lonza and Solvay were involved in an ongoing commercial partnership, and with the new strategic manufacturing alliance, Lonza will produce even further selected API's for Solvay.

Lukas Utiker, head of organic fine & performance chemicals and interim head of exclusive synthesis at Lonza, said: 'This agreement with Solvay is a milestone in the successful commercial partnership of both companies and provides a win-win situation. For Lonza the strategic manufacturing alliance offers full flexibility in the execution of the API production and underscores its role as one of the world's leading custom manufacturers. For Solvay the agreement guarantees the timely supply of API's under best possible conditions.'

'This outsourcing is in line with Solvay Pharmaceuticals strategy of shifting selected manufacturing activities to high quality, competitively-priced alternatives,' said Francesc Junyent, senior vice president of manufacturing & supply at Solvay.
