Merck Millipore award supports student education

Two youngsters from employee families receive US$5,000 each in Scholarship Programme

Merck Millipore, the life science division of Merck KGaA of Germany, has awarded US$5,000 each to two students in its 2011 Merck Millipore Scholarship Programme. The grant is renewable for an additional three years, providing a total of $20,000 to each student.

Lauren Mendoza, the daughter of Merck Millipore employee Roger Mendoza and Kurt Sjoberg, the son of Merck Millipore employee Christian Sjoberg have each been awarded college scholarships toward an undergraduate degree. They were selected on their academic record, school and community activities, honours, work experience, unique personal or family circumstances, and a statement of educational and career goals.

Merck Millipore honours children of employees in its Scholarship Programme to encourage and assist them as they work towards personal and professional goals.

Mendoza graduated from Wayne Hills High School in Wayne, New Jersey and plans to attend the University of Pennsylvania this autumn. During high school, she was a National Merit Finalist and National Honor Society Corresponding Secretary.

Sjoberg plans to study Biomedical Engineering at the California Polytechnic University at San Luis Obispo, CA. While attending West Valley High School in Cottonwood, CA, he was recognised as a Sectional Scholar Athlete and Student Body Senator.
