US companies Microcide Pharmace- uticals and Althexis have merged to form Essential Therapeutics, an r&d organisation committed to the discovery, development and commercialisation of new classes of pharmaceutical products. A special meeting of share- holders also approved US$60m private equity funding, which will be used to accelerate promising research programmes into development.
