US biopharmaceutical firm Enzon Pharmaceuticals has installed an NV2 fully automatic self-adhesive labelling system from UK-based Newman Labelling Systems for its facility in Indianapolis.
Enzon manufactures medicines for patients with cancer and other life-threatening conditions. It also engages in contract manufacturing.
The company has bought the NV2 with an Optel vision system for overprint verification and barcode reading together with a Markem laser coding device for batch numbering and expiry date coding. It replaces a Newman 6VA machine, which will be transferred to another packaging line for cancer drugs.
David Coles, manufacturing supervisor at Enzon, said: "The Newman NV2 was chosen based on its specifications and ability to meet Enzon's current and future labelling needs. It allows us to label vials ranging from 2-50ml."
The NV2 will be operated at speeds up to 140cpm and, although being used at Enzon for glass vials up to 50ml, it can handle container shapes and sizes up to 150mm.
"The labeller interface is quite simple to navigate and the operator can easily change over from product to product within a few minutes," added Coles. "The labelling system has also significantly increased product throughput/first pass yield."
