CPhI Worldwide predicts record attendance

Published: 4-Oct-2011

Programme will feature both new and returning attractions

UBM Live has announced details of its annual flagship CPhI Worldwide event for pharmaceutical ingredients, along with co-located events ICSE for contract and outsourced services and logistics, P-MEC for pharmaceutical technology and machinery and the new InnoPack show for pharmaceutical packaging needs. Once again, the events are projected to break attendance records with more than 29,000 attendees and a 13% increase in exhibitors expected. The events will take place at Messe Frankfurt in Frankfurt, Germany from 25–27 October 2011 and will feature an extensive programme with both new and returning attractions.

‘As CPhI Worldwide, ICSE, P-MEC and InnoPack are quickly approaching, we are pleased to have such positive projections,’ said Greg Kerwin, Pharma Portfolio Director for UBM Live. ‘Each event has displayed growth in its own right, which is exceptional considering that last year in Paris was a record year, with well over 28,000 attendees and 1934 exhibitors. In 2011, it is great to see that exhibitor numbers have grown across the board for all of the events which mirrors the upturn in the market.

‘This growth has been strategically planned for, and we feel that our events line-up effectively reflects the overriding market message that as the global pharma industry changes, we must adapt and change with it. The Frankfurt events are guaranteed to offer attendees a comprehensive programme through the evolution of our returning features and the debut of the newly introduced features such as the InnoPack event and LABWorld Pavilion, which are direct responses to new and changing market demands."

The Pre-Show Conference Series returns on 24 October 2011 formatted as two strategic forums aimed at understanding how the pharma industry can take advantage of new market developments and drive future competitive advantage in global sourcing and contracting. The Series offers a cross-section of global knowledge where attendees will benefit from learning and networking with more than 350 distinguished industry peers and influential thinkers.

The high-level speaker line-up includes Kristof Szent-Ivanyi, Director Global Bulk Sales, GlaxoSmithKline, Thomas Niemeyer, Global External Supply Lead, Pfizer and Hairong Zhou, SMPS Sourcing, Genentech, Roche, who will address key market topics including sourcing and partnership strategies, future projections for the pharma industry, growth in a diverse market and emerging product technology implications.

Other returning features for 2011 include an expanded zoning format and the CPhI Innovation Awards. The zoning, introduced at last year's events in Paris to further facilitate the 'more talking, less walking' mantra and to ease attendee navigation of the event, has been expanded as a result of the positive feedback it received. Two new zones, the Generic APIs and Finished Dosage zones, will be hosted within CPhI, while ICSE will offer three new zones for New Exhibitors, USA Exhibitors, and Logistics and Supply Chain.

The CPhI Innovation Awards return to celebrate companies across the industry that have pioneered new and innovative commercially scalable technologies. The entries were submitted in an expanded range of categories to complement the expanded zoning format and the six selected finalists will make presentations on 25 October between 10.00 and 12.50 on booth 51D02. Winners will be announced during the Exhibitor Party Exhibitor Party the same evening, which will be held from 17.30-19.30 in the Europa hall.

In keeping with the UBM focus on continuously evolving and improving the events line-up, there are many new features being added to the CPhI Worldwide programme. Perhaps the most notable of these, is the introduction of the stand-alone InnoPack event, which is a direct result of the positive feedback from the Packaging Zone at the 2010 ICSE event. InnoPack will provide innovative packaging resources and solutions for more sophisticated and varied pharmaceutical packaging and delivery methods and will offer daily ‘Innovation Briefs’ and Speakers Corners to cover on-trend topics in the packaging industry.

Also making its debut in Frankfurt, the LABWorld pavilion in P-MEC will provide smaller-scale resources for high technology areas such as instrumental analysis, measuring and testing technologies, materials testing, quality control and laboratory equipment. The LABWorld Pavilion offers an avenue for its exhibitors to differentiate from the 'traditional' large-scale capital machinery with which P-MEC has become associated.

Finally, a new Lunchtime Education Series will feature six information-packed, interactive sessions over the three exhibition days to provide attendees with the opportunity to analyse and discuss some of the key issues and trends currently affecting the pharma market in a tailored module format lead by industry-leading experts, as well as a half hour catered lunch networking session.

CPhI Worldwide will return to Madrid, Spain in 2012, running from 9 to 11 October at the Feria de Madrid, Spain.
