Austin, Texas-based Emerson Process Management has won a contract to provide engineering and design services and digital automation systems for a new Lonza biopharmaceutical plant in Singapore.

Emerson did not disclose the value of the contract, but the plant will cost US$350m and will be completed by 2010.

Emerson Process Management specialises in complex automation systems for manufacturing plants across a range of industries worldwide, including pharmaceuticals, food and beverages and chemicals.

The contract is part of Emerson's growing portfolio of contracts with life sciences companies. It has also won contracts with companies in China and India and a previous plant for the Swiss pharmaceutical company in Singapore.

Emerson will implement its PlantWeb technologies in the new plant. By following the original project models, employing best practices, and applying the experience gained during design and construction of the original facility, Emerson is expected to reduce Lonza's overall costs for the new plant.

Lonza will employ Emerson's PlantWeb digital automation architecture; DeltaV digital automation system; and intelligent digital devices, including Fisher and Baumann control valves, Rosemount flowmeters and analysers, Micro Motion Coriolis flowmeters, and Fisher pressure regulators.
