B. Braun invests €4m on the enlargement of its production site in Timisoara

The expansion of B. Braun’s production facility in Timisoara, Romania, has been officially opened by Dr Meinrad Lugan, member of the board of B. Braun Melsungen AG, together with Mr Christian Braun, member of the Braun family and head of the B. Braun operations in South-East Europe.

In 2010, B. Braun invested €4.0m on enlarging its production site in Timisoara. The investment targeted the expansion of the available production capacity in order to reach a total capacity of 19 million units of infusion solutions in 2011.

With this investment, B.Braun has increased its presence in South-East Europe and Romania will become the distribution hub for B. Braun in that region. Besides Romania, starting in 2011, B. Braun will deliver its products ex Timisoara to neighbouring markets such as Bulgaria, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Albania.

‘Through the investment in Timisoara, we plan to make the location a hub for other neighbouring countries’ needs, which will strengthen Romania’s position within the B. Braun group,’ said Dr Lugan.

‘This is an important step for the employees of B. Braun in Romania, securing their jobs over the long-run and implying further investments in the forthcoming years,’ added Christian Braun. In 2011, B. Braun plans to invest an additional €2m in upgrading the production facilities and further integrating B. Braun Pharmaceuticals SA into the network of B. Braun production sites worldwide.

As part of the roll-out of its expanded business in Romania, B. Braun Medical’s new plant in the county of Timisoara has been fully integrated and operational since early 2011. The company’s significant investment brought the plant into line with the highest operational and environmental health and safety standards. The fully upgraded plant will employ up to 200 people.
