Konnichiwa Interphex Japan: GEA heads east

Published: 23-Jun-2016

An annual must-attend event for the Japanese and Asian pharmaceutical industry, GEA will highlight its continuous, containment and bioprocessing solutions at Interphex Japan 2016

Reported to be the world’s third-largest market, Japan’s well-developed pharmaceutical infrastructure offers ready access to low cost healthcare for its rapidly ageing population. The country also accounts for approximately 10% of the global drug production sector, making it an ideal environment for GEA (booth 12-30) to showcase its wide range of pharmaceutical manufacturing solutions.

'Japan has a very underpenetrated generics space,' notes Navin Lakhanpaul, Vice President Asia Pacific, APC Pharma, 'so there will be significant growth, driving further investment. Interphex Japan is therefore a vital show for us and an opportunity to highlight our capabilities and customer network. Japanese companies are very keen to develop high-end technology platforms such as continuous processing, which plays to GEA’s strengths.'

The show covers the entire pharmaceutical production process and provides an ideal platform to see, touch and compare the latest and most innovative products/technologies from Japan, Asia and the rest of the world. Navin continues: 'This is an excellent opportunity for us to network, display new products, discuss new ideas and, hopefully, discover new business. GEA will maintain a very strong focus on APAC for the foreseeable future; it’s a key growth region and we recognize the need for improved local application expertise and support.'

Exhibiting on booth 12-30, GEA will feature a range of advanced processing solutions for the production of both liquid and solid dosage forms. For pharmaceutical oral solid dosage (OSD) applications, continuous processing and contained material handling will be a highlight. The laboratory scale ConsiGma 1, part of our family of state-of-the-art high shear granulation and drying lines for continuous OSD plants, will be on display, as well a MODUL P rotary tablet press.

Offering maximal end-product safety using online quality control, faster R&D, less required space, lower labour costs, energy savings and 0.5–5.0% yield improvements, ConsiGma will revolutionise the way you develop and produce tablets forever.

Our experts will also be available to discuss POD-based mini-factories for on-demand drug production and our award-winning portable, continuous, miniature and modular (PCMM) technology.

Furthermore, with a focus on integrated systems, a FlexStream multipurpose fluid bed processor will also at the show. Equipped with an integrated post-hoist blender, FlexStream overcomes many of the issues associated with traditional fluid bed processing, including scale-up, and highlights GEA’s highly contained materials handling capabilities for oncology, hormonal and potent or toxic product applications. And, building on the success of the well-established PharmaConnect system, GEA now offers a new range of modular fluidised bed technologies: AirConnect. Suitable for granulating, drying and coating, it accelerates and optimises product development and minimises scale-up, helping you to get product to market quicker.

Also on-stand and emphasising our focus on operator safety GEA’s contained material handling solutions include BUCK split butterfly valves, the lightweight BUCK MC Lite DN100/150 for the contained transfer of highly potent solid dosage products and the Hicoflex disposable containment system. Plus, for liquid dosage forms, from fermentation to separation and from cell culture to complete plants for the production of insulin, mAbs, vaccines and blood products, we have the technology and the know-how to meet your application needs.

GEA has built a reputation for matching inspiration with technology, but it’s combining our expertise and equipment together in a creative way to enhance productivity that really makes a difference. We design, test and develop our core technologies to provide the widest range of solutions and after-sales service in the market, offering robust, flexible and cost-effective manufacturing concepts that maximize operational reliability and speed.
