LGC Standards, a UK-based supplier of laboratory reference materials, has taken a foothold in South Africa with the acquisition of Industrial Analytical of Johannesburg.

LGC Standards, headquartered in Teddington, Middlesex, supplies reference materials, pharmaceutical impurity reference standards, biological standards and reagents, as well as proficiency testing services.

Industrial Analytical specialises in pure, matrix and customised certified reference materials (CRMs) for the extraction industries, food, environmental and pharmaceuticals.

Francois Beukes, md of Industrial Analytical, commented: ‘This new venture, combining Industrial Analytical’s African offering with LGC Standards’ expert knowledge in reference materials, will help strengthen our position in the African marketplace.

‘Our customers and suppliers can be reassured that while we are retaining both our trading name and our current team of 16 people in Kyalami, Johannesburg, our acquisition by LGC Standards will open more doors for us, thus expanding our existing product portfolio and allowing us to penetrate new markets.’

David Richardson, chief executive of LGC, added: ‘Our companies are extremely well matched: both are renowned for their expertise, authority and excellent customer service. This acquisition will enable further innovations and will support LGC’s continued expansion within emerging markets.’
