US packaging solutions company MeadWestvaco Corp. is launching Med-Easy, a medicines pack that is said to be convenient, discrete and easy to use.

Scheduled to reach the market this month (September) in Europe, it will be available for both prescription and over-the-counter products globally. The new package design was based on in-depth interviews with consumers in London, Paris and Munich in early 2009.

"Our research showed that consumers often take medication when they are on the go. It's common for them to put a couple pills in a pocket or handbag for the day," said Dr David Spackman, director, MWV Healthcare. "At the same time, consumers don't want it to be obvious to others when they take medication in public, so we developed a packaging solution that is easy to open, discrete and small enough to carry around, without having to leave the medication information and dosing instructions behind."

Med-Easy is slim and rectangular to fit into a pocket and offer convenience for consumers who need to carry medicines around with them. The book-style pack is also designed for simple one-handed operation. The blisterpack slides in and out for dispensing or can be removed completely if desired. It has a flap for instructional leaflets to be stored with the package so that important information about the medication is available at all times.

Med-Easy is also designed to offer maximum space for branding while improving supply chain efficiencies and time savings for retailers.
