Marchesini Group has acquired the pharmaceutical and cosmetic technology of fellow Italian packaging machinery firm PRB for an undisclosed sum.
Pianora-based Marchesini said the acquisition includes technology for the secondary packaging (wrappers, case packers, cartoners and palletisers) of pharmaceutical and cosmetic products.
The acquisition will enable the firm to offer complete lines for pharmaceutical and cosmetic packaging.
Maurizio Marchesini, chief executive of Marchesini Group, said: ‘PRB has very good core technology; we see this as a great opportunity to be able to provide our worldwide customers with complete and integrated lines supported by world class parts, services and technical support.’
During the transition period, Marchesini Group and PRB, which is based in Castel Guelfo di Bologna, will work together to provide sales information, customer support and service.
PRB chairman Matteo Gentili said the sale of its pharma and cosmetic technology to Marchesini Group ‘allows us to focus on some specific businesses, such as food, confectionery, detergents, facial tissue and tissue’.
Marchesini expects to begin manufacturing machines based on PRB technology later this year. The firm will also offer machines based on PRB technology as stand-alone units that can be integrated into other OEM equipment, or as upgrades to currently installed lines.
