Takes a majority stake in Mediplus based in Curacao

Hungarian pharmaceutical company Gedeon Richter has purchased an initial 51% stake in Mediplus, a marketing company based in Curacao.

Richter said it has signed an agreement with Netherlands-based company Anderlam and will acquire the outstanding 49% stake in Mediplus over the next three years.

No financial details have been disclosed.

Following two acquisitions in Brazil and Mexico, announced in late 2013, this agreement further expands Richter's presence in Latin America, one of the fastest-growing regions in the world.

Richter will make an initial payment to Mediplus linked to the acquisition of the initial majority stake. Further milestone payments will be made according to performance-related targets to be reached by Mediplus.

Mediplus has subsidiaries in Ecuador, Peru, Chile and Bolivia. It also sells pharmaceutical products to Central American and Caribbean countries.

Mediplus is to market Richter's female healthcare products in these countries and also register other gynaecological products, including the fibroid treatment Esmya.
