The outlook looks positive for the development of the Chinese pharmaceutical market following CPhI China

Since 2016, CPhI China has experienced a 14% growth in overall visits and a 12% growth in overseas visits — a remarkable achievement for a mature market with 17 previous shows.

The event featured 2800+ exhibiting companies, covering the entire supply chain and acting as an accurate barometer of the industry’s overall growth patterns and future developments.

Two major trends to emerge from Asia’s largest pharma event were the increased interest and promotion of intelligent manufacturing systems and green manufacturing approaches.

The increased interest and promotion of intelligent manufacturing systems emphasises a rapid shift in China’s industry towards advanced facilities and product classes. However, the increase in green manufacturing approaches is a particularly notable change in light of the country’s general reputation and the first ever China Pharma Environmental Forum was an integral feature of this year’s exhibition.

This year’s show saw the introduction of the first CPhI China Pharma Week, a direct response to China’s increased internationalisation. The pharma week included plant visits to leading R&D and innovation companies, the CPhI Pharma Business International Programme to help overseas companies solve problems they encounter when entering the Chinese market and much more.

The Bluebook on the internationalisation of China’s Pharmaceutical Industry — listing the largest Chinese companies operating internationally — reviewing and documenting the country’s most prominent companies was launched as part of CPhI China Pharma week.

The 2017 show also introduced the first ever CPhI Women in Leadership Forum in China, featuring high level debates on how to advance the potential of female executives contributing to the rapid development of pharmaceutical industry in China.

In total 55,020 visits were recorded during the 3 day Shanghai event, with 10,126 visits from international attendees, including representatives from more than 120 different countries, covering an enormous 165,000 m2 of exhibition space at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, which makes it the biggest edition of CPhI and P-MEC China to date.

The 18th CPhI China will return in 2018. The event will be held from 20–22 June 2018 in the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, alongside the second CPhI China Pharma Week.
