Belgian biopharma firm UCB is to build a Euro 65m biologics pilot plant at its Braine-l'Alleud site, with the support of the Walloon government.

The plant will focus on central nervous system (CNS) and immunology therapeutics and is expected to come on stream early in 2012. The company said the move would create around 100 jobs.

Roch Doliveux, ceo of UCB, said the construction of the plant fits into the company's decision to "focus on its core skills and adapt its competencies for the future".
