A short list of UK laboratories competing for prizes in the S-Lab Awards has been announced
The short list of those UK laboratories competing in the S-Lab Awards has been announced. The awards scheme recognises excellence in lab design, operation and management in all sectors, and looks particularly at improved performance, enhanced safety and sustainability.

The awards also recognise individuals making a difference, and include other categories such as environmental improvement, lab-based teaching innovation and best school/college lab.
The awards will be announced at the Effective Laboratory conference at the National Science Learning Centre, York, June 12-13.
This conference has been organised by S-Lab in association with the National HE-STEM Programme (and the University of Bradford Greening STEM Legacy project which it is funding). It will cover all aspects of laboratory design.
Keynote speakers include Wendell Brase, VC, University of California Irvine on its groundbreaking approach to lab design (including a two air changes per hour target for new life science labs in normal use); James Neil Crossan, programme director at AstraZeneca on developing world class pharmaceutical laboratories and James Naismith, professor and director of the new Bioscience Research Annex at the University of St Andrews, which is targeting Outstanding in the BREEAM building assessment scheme.
